Advanced solutions for improved efficiency
and attractiveness of urban bus systems
The Barcelona Demonstration Team will hold their EBSF_2 Demonstration Event and Workshop on Wednesday 14 September, 9am to 13pm, in Barcelona.
The event will be hosted by demonstration leader IRIZAR and TMB and taking place TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona), Jaume Brossa Street, 08030 Barcelona.
On 14 June the first EBSF_2 Demonstration Event took place in conjunction with Transport Publics in Paris. The Demonstration Event gathered demonstration partners, public transport operators, and research and coordination organisations to showcase the three technological innovations.
During the event, VTT presented the Energy Management Strategies and Auxiliaries innovations in EBSF_2, the Lyon Demonstration Team, led by IVECO, presented the three technological innovations, and Keolis presented the relevance for the technologies for large bus operators.
The Lyon Demonstration Team will be the first to hold an EBSF_2 Demonstration Event and Workshop.
EBSF_2 has selected five bus stakeholders to enlarge its platform for dialogue on solutions for innovative and more attractive bus systems.
A call for bus stakeholders with experience in the project key research areas was widely launched in March 2016. Considering the degree of innovation of the solutions implemented by the applicants and their take-up potential, the EBSF2 team is happy to welcome on-board the following stakeholders:
Electric buses offer the opportunity to propose a radical change in the bus design; reasons rely on technical, commercial and symbolical attributes of a bus system. Within EBSF_2 a design working group started activity from the beginning of 2016 with the aim to address a strategic question: can we express an electric bus as a new urban object in light of the key opportunity offered by the energy transition?
The Transport Research Arena Conference 2016 (TRA 2016) — the most important transport research event in Europe for researchers, experts, operators, industry and policy-makers — took place in Warsaw, Poland, from 18 to 21 April 2016 with EBSF_2 leading the way for innovative bus systems.
The EBSF_2 Project was hosted at the European Commission outdoor exhibition during the Transport Research Arena Conference. MZA, the public transport operator of Warsaw metropolitan area, showcased its SOLARIS Urbino buses equipped with solar power technology. About 80 buses in Warsaw already feature flexible and lightweight photovoltaic cells on the roof as well as converting units specifically designed for public transport buses. The energy collected by the photovoltaic cells support on board power systems, e.g. additional electronic motors, ticket machines and lighting, and account for 1KW of power for the 12m buses or a reduction of the fuel consumption by approx. 5%.
From 18 to 21 April Warsaw held the most important event in Europe for transport research - Transport Research Arena 2016 (TRA 2016). The 6th edition of TRA focused on innovative solutions for the mobility of tomorrow and served as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience between the worlds of science and business. “The primary objective of the implementation of innovative transport solutions is to connect people together”, said Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport, opening the conference.
On 29-30 March 2016 UITP India and DIMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd.) hosted in Delhi the 2nd UITP India bus seminar to discuss the key role of bus transport in improving livability in cities. In India, rapid urbanization and new mobility needs of the growing middle class combined with the difficulty to coordinate land use and transport planning, has resulted in a critical increase in the number of private vehicles. The host city, Delhi, is a paradigm of this challenge with 20% of urban land dedicated to roads, which is one of the highest scores in the world.
The European Bus System of the Future 2 (EBSF_2) project aims at developing a new generation of urban bus systems by means of new vehicle technologies and infrastructures in combination with operational best practices, and testing them in operating scenarios within 12 European bus networks.
