EBSF_2 activities in Gothenburg are closely related to the ElectriCity initiative and a new electric bus line, line 55, running between two university campus (Johanneberg and Lindholmen). In the demonstration field trial, new vehicle designs as well as new bus stops will be tested and evaluated from different perspectives including attractiveness and efficiency. 

EnergyStrategy and Auxiliaries
In an electric driven vehicle the on-board energy consumption for heating is substantially higher compared to a diesel or hybrid driven vehicle. The Gothenburg demonstration will test new solutions that reduce energy consumption for heating up to 30% during winter conditions (-5 degree Celsius) compared to existing solutions in corresponding electric vehicles while maintaining a comfortable climate.

Vehicle Design
Gothenburg is demonstrating a new, more efficient and flexible solution (fully electric buses) and compare this with a more traditional design (hybrid buses). Expected results are increased accessibility (also for wheelchair users), flexibility and capacity, and reduced dwell times.

Urban Infrastructure
Electrification offers new opportunities for creating innovative solutions for the interface between public transport and the urban environment, e.g. in terms of new types of bus stops. Gothenburg is demonstrating the feasibility of an ‘indoor’ bus stop for increased attractiveness of bus systems while solving technical challenges associated with maintaining a comfortable climate.
